Daley Sweeney, a 39-year-old from Macclesfield, has been jailed for 20 months for child sexual offences committed more than two decades ago. He pleaded guilty to two counts of indecent assault on a boy under 16 and was sentenced at Chester Crown Court on Friday, October 16.
Victim's bravery leads to conviction
The offences were carried out on two occasions against the same boy more than 20 years ago. Police said Sweeney showed no remorse and refused to take accountability for his actions, but officers gathered enough evidence to build a strong case against him.
Sweeney, of HMP Dovegate, appeared in court where the sentence was handed down.
Police commend victim and encourage others
Detective Constable Steph Darbyshire, of Cheshire Police, said: “Firstly, I would like to commend the bravery of the victim in this case for reporting what had happened to him. Throughout this investigation, Sweeney has refused to take accountability for his actions, showing no remorse for what he had subjected the victim to.
“But thanks to the casefile of evidence gathered against him, he had no option but to plead guilty. The sentence handed to Sweeney reflects the severity of his crimes and I hope that this result will encourage other victims to come forward.
“As this case demonstrates, we treat all reports of historic sexual offences seriously, with the wishes and needs of the victim as our main priority, and any allegations will be thoroughly investigated.”
