Tottenham Hotspur winger Dejan Kulusevski has had his sentencing hearing for speeding adjourned after he was unable to attend. Magistrates delayed the case after being unsure whether he wanted it to proceed without him.
Court appearance missed due to training
Kulusevski was due to attend on Monday after being caught doing 43mph in a mph limit zone last year. But the BBC reports that, in an email to Barkingside Magistrates' Court, he confirmed he could not attend because he was in training with Spurs.
The 26-year-old already has 18 points on his licence and added in the email that his young family relies on him to drive, as he faces a potential ban. He has accepted that he was speeding, but has argued that most of his offences involve him being just over the speed limit.
Adjournment granted
Ordering the adjournment, presiding magistrate Mary Miller, said that it was ‘not clear from the email’ whether Kulusevski wanted the hearing adjourned. An adjournment was therefore granted until 19 October.
The Sweden international is closing in on a return to action after more than a year out with a complicated knee injury. His last appearance was in May 2025, in a 2-0 loss to Crystal Palace, meaning he missed all of last season and the summer’s World Cup.
Return to training
Kulusevski has now returned to full training with his Spurs teammates. He has not been called up to the Sweden squad for the current international break as he continues his progress and eyes a return to action.
Spurs boss Roberto De Zerbi gave the latest on the winger ahead of last weekend’s Premier League clash vs Aston Villa. “We have to manage Deki in the best way we can, with the medical staff, physical staff,” he said. “But it's a great thing for us because he's a good player, he's a good guy. He deserves to play again.”
“We have to work day by day. Also, for Deki, it's important the international break, because when he will be at the top of condition and pass over the injury, I think it's a great signing, a new signing for us, another new signing.”
Spurs return to Premier League action after the international break when they travel to take on Manchester United at Old Trafford on Saturday, 10 October (5.30pm kick-off). They will be looking to turn their season around with the side currently sitting bottom of the Premier League table.
