Ghislaine Maxwell's Prison Hygiene and Special Treatment Exposed by Cellmates

A former inmate who shared a cell with convicted sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell has revealed shocking details about the disgraced socialite's personal hygiene behind bars. According to the unnamed ex-cellmate, Maxwell, 64, almost never showers and emits a strong body odor that other prisoners found repulsive.

"Horrible Personal Hygiene" in Florida Prison

The woman, who was incarcerated with Maxwell from 2023 to 2025 at the all-female FCI Tallahassee in Florida, told TMZ that Maxwell allegedly smelled of "armpits" and maintained "horrible personal hygiene." Despite having easy access to shower facilities, Maxwell would reportedly only bathe "once or twice a week."

The former cellmate explained that Maxwell "always had BO" because she would exercise constantly but rarely wash herself afterward. Maxwell was known to jog around the prison facility to get to her destinations, contributing to her persistent odor problem.

Other inmates at the Florida prison shunned Maxwell and labeled her with the prison slang term "chomo," meaning child molester. However, no physical altercations occurred because prisoners feared being sent to the special housing unit known as "the hole," where inmates face months of confinement with 24-hour lockdowns and cold meals.

Transfer to More Comfortable Texas Facility

In August, Maxwell was transferred from the Florida prison to Federal Prison Camp Bryan in Texas, a lower-security facility typically reserved for non-violent, white-collar criminals. The transfer occurred shortly after she met twice with US Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche to discuss her crimes and relationship with Jeffrey Epstein.

A whistleblower from the Texas prison, later identified as nurse Noella Turnage, testified before the House Judiciary Committee that Maxwell now enjoys significantly cushier treatment. Prison staff allegedly wait "hand and foot" on the convicted sex offender, providing her with special privileges not available to other inmates.

Special Privileges and Perks

According to the whistleblower's testimony, Maxwell receives numerous special accommodations at her new facility:

  • Customized meals personally delivered to her cell by longtime federal employees
  • After-hours access to recreation areas
  • A special cordoned-off area for visitors with snacks and refreshments
  • Permission for visitors to bring computers, creating potential for unmonitored outside communications
  • Occasional access to a puppy in her cell, despite rules prohibiting inmates from petting service dogs in training
  • Personal escorts by prison guards for after-hours workouts
  • Late-night shower privileges when other inmates are already in bed

Democrat Jamie Raskin revealed that the whistleblower provided email correspondence showing Maxwell told friends she feels "much much happier" and safer at the Texas facility. In her emails, Maxwell described the prison as "a different beast in every possible respect" to her previous institution and praised its management.

Continued Controversy and Legal Response

Maxwell's attorney, David Oscar Markus, defended the prison transfer as necessary for his client's safety. "I'm surprised to hear my progressive friends criticizing more humane prisons and Ghislaine's transfer to a safer facility," Markus stated on social media platform X. He emphasized that despite the improved conditions, "it's still prison" and remains "a truly awful place."

The whistleblower also reported that inmates at the Texas facility have been threatened with retaliation if they speak to media about Maxwell's special treatment. Maxwell continues her exercise regimen at the new prison, having been photographed attending yoga classes in gray joggers and black Nike trainers.

Maxwell is currently serving a 20-year federal prison sentence after being convicted of child sex trafficking and conspiring with Jeffrey Epstein to sexually abuse minors. The Daily Mail has reached out to Maxwell's legal team for comment on these latest allegations.
