Klevi Pirjani and Nivalda Santos Pirjani, the couple convicted of murdering their 13-week-old son Miguel, have had their prison sentences increased by the Court of Appeal. The court ruled that the original sentences were unduly lenient.
Original Sentences Increased
Earlier this year, Klevi Pirjani was sentenced to life in prison with a minimum term of 19 years, while his wife Nivalda Santos Pirjani received a life sentence with a minimum of 15 years. Following the appeal, Klevi Pirjani's minimum term has been increased to 21 years and six months, and Nivalda Pirjani's to 17 years and nine months.
The Court of Appeal, presided over by Lord Justice Jeremy Baker, sitting with Mr Justice Goose and Mr Justice Hillard, made the decision on 27 October 2026.
Details of the Case
On 24 November 2024, Merseyside Police received a report that three-month-old Miguel Pirjani was found unresponsive at a house in Seacombe. The infant was admitted to Alder Hey Hospital, where medical tests confirmed he had a fractured skull and rib fractures. Despite the efforts of medical professionals, Miguel was pronounced deceased five days later, on 29 November 2024.
Klevi and Nivalda watched the proceedings from HMP Wakefield in Yorkshire and HMP Styal in Cheshire, respectively.
