Yellowstone Star Accuses Police of Neglecting Nephew's Murder Probe

Mo Brings Plenty, a prominent actor from the hit series Yellowstone, has publicly declared his conviction that his nephew was murdered, levelling serious accusations against local law enforcement for allegedly refusing to allocate resources to probe the death thoroughly.

Family Demands Answers Years After Tragic Discovery

Cole Brings Plenty, a 27-year-old actor known for his role in the Yellowstone prequel 1923, was discovered deceased in a wooded region of Kansas in April 2024, merely days after his family reported him missing. Initially, the Johnson County Sheriff's Office in Kansas stated that no foul play was suspected in the young performer's passing.

However, in a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Mo Brings Plenty, a member of the indigenous Oglala Lakota tribe, expressed profound heartbreak and frustration. "For his murder to go uninvestigated, and for it to be written off as 'no foul play,' because they didn't want to invest anything into it? It's heartbreaking," he asserted. "We're not letting it go."

Allegations of Inadequate Police Response

Mo, who has reprised his role as Mo in Taylor Sheridan's new Yellowstone spin-off Marshals, emphasised that as taxpaying citizens, his family deserves equal treatment from authorities. "So for them to not work for us, no different than how they work for anyone else is, is pretty sad," he remarked.

He further claimed to have seen compelling evidence contradicting the official narrative. "I saw his body, I saw the evidence that is there that someone caught him," Mo stated. "So for them to say that there was nothing, I can't believe that. I still can't."

Context of Disappearance and Police Actions

At the time Cole was reported missing, he was a suspect in a domestic violence case, accused of fleeing after authorities responded to reports of a woman screaming for help. Lawrence police noted that traffic cameras captured him leaving the city immediately following the incident.

Mo alleged that police efforts were minimal and misguided. "The departments didn't put much effort into searching for Cole. In fact, they weren't even really looking for him. They were hunting him," he contended. He recounted that only when he and a friend rented a helicopter to conduct an aerial search did law enforcement mobilise in full force.

Cole Brings Plenty's Legacy and Family's Ongoing Fight

Cole was a media student at Haskell Indian Nations University in Kansas and appeared in two episodes of 1923, playing Pete Plenty Clouds. Mo described him as "the future" of their people, highlighting his dedication to preserving language, songs, and traditions.

Months after Cole's death, his father, Joe Brings Plenty Sr., a Cheyenne River Sioux tribal leader, also called for a comprehensive investigation. At the 2024 Red Nation Film Festival, he urged, "My boy, we have some work to do. We want a full investigation done, a fair investigation, to find out what happened with Cole."

The Independent has reached out to the Johnson County Sheriff's Office and the Lawrence Police Department for comment on these allegations, but responses are pending as the family continues to seek justice and clarity in this distressing case.
