Posts about the incident circulated on social media, with some incorrectly claiming a local school had been placed on lockdown and that a stabbing had occurred. Greater Manchester Police moved to address these concerns, confirming the incident was isolated and mental health related.
Officers responded to reports of a disturbance around Sandy Lane at 2:53pm on July 6. A police spokesperson said: “We are aware of concerns on social media regarding an incident in Rochdale. Officers quickly responded to reports of a disturbance around Sandy Lane, in the Spotland area of Rochdale yesterday at 2.53pm. A woman in her 50s was arrested for possession of a bladed article and has been bailed pending further investigation.”
Police reassure community after isolated incident
The spokesperson added: “We understand this incident caused concern within the community, and we take all reports of this nature extremely seriously however we'd like to reassure residents that this was an isolated incident which officers swiftly attended, no injuries were reported and there is no wider or ongoing threat.”
No injuries were reported, and the incident has not led to any ongoing threat to the public, according to police.
