A British holidaymaker has been arrested in Florida after allegedly attempting to drown his wife and their two-year-old child in a swimming pool, according to local authorities.
The shocking incident occurred at a resort in the Orlando area, where witnesses reported seeing the man violently attacking his family in the water. Police were called to the scene after other guests intervened.
Violent Poolside Confrontation
Eyewitnesses described a chaotic scene as the 32-year-old UK national reportedly held his wife underwater while simultaneously trying to submerge their toddler. Resort staff and fellow tourists rushed to pull the victims to safety.
'It was absolutely horrifying,' said one American guest who helped rescue the child. 'The man appeared completely out of control, screaming while forcing them under.'
Police Response and Charges
Orange County Sheriff's deputies arrived within minutes and took the suspect into custody. He now faces multiple felony charges including attempted murder and child abuse.
'This was a brutal attack on his own family in what should have been a relaxing holiday environment,' a police spokesperson stated. 'We're grateful to those who stepped in to prevent a tragedy.'
Victims Recovering from Trauma
The wife and child were treated at a nearby hospital for water inhalation and shock but have since been released. Authorities confirmed the family had been visiting from the UK for a standard two-week vacation.
Neighbours back in Britain expressed disbelief, describing the suspect as a 'quiet family man' with no history of violence. The Foreign Office has confirmed they are providing consular assistance.
This disturbing case highlights the potential dangers that can emerge even in idyllic holiday settings, with psychological evaluations now being considered as part of the ongoing investigation.
