Two men have been charged following an incident on Breck Road in Anfield where a police officer was allegedly punched in the face. The altercation occurred on Saturday, July 11, 2026, after police responded to an abandoned 999 call at around 8:55 pm.
Incident Details
Upon arrival, an officer attempted to arrest a man but was reportedly struck in the face. Video footage shared on social media shows a man grappling with the officer, appearing to hit him, while the officer also swings and misses. Backup arrived, and the man was taken to the ground and arrested. A second man at the scene was also arrested, followed by a third after up to 10 police vehicles arrived.
Charges and Court Appearances
Merseyside Police confirmed that Steven Booth, 49, of Hebburn Way, Liverpool, has been charged with assaulting a police constable and being drunk and disorderly in a public place. He was bailed to appear at court on September 17, 2026. Thomas Doubtfire, 29, of Denman Drive, Liverpool, was charged with obstructing or resisting a constable in the execution of duty and bailed to appear on September 9, 2026.
A third man, aged 36 from Walton Village, was arrested on suspicion of common assault of an emergency worker. He has been released under investigation pending further enquiries.
