Kameron Povey, 19, who tried to kick a man in the head outside a Subway store in Liverpool city centre, has been spared jail by a judge who said he was 'worth taking a chance on'. Povey was part of a mob that left the victim with a broken nose, jaw and eye socket.
Background of abuse and threats
Liverpool Crown Court heard that Povey began an 'on and off' relationship with his ex-girlfriend in September 2023. From February 2024, he sent her abusive messages, threatening to 'punch your f***ing head in' and later to 'f***ing batter her'. In October 2024, he threatened to chop off her brother's head and said he was 'coming to stab every last one of yous'.
In a statement, the victim said: 'The defendant ruined my life for two years. I felt like I couldn't trust anyone, like I was a problem, like nobody loved me.'
Drug supply and assault
Between February and March 2025, Povey was involved in supplying cannabis, holding a 'graft phone line' that sent advertising messages. On May 3, 2025, he joined a confrontation outside Subway on Whitechapel, punching Al Fadali Hamza and attempting to kick him in the head. The victim suffered fractures to his nose, jaw, left cheekbone and a broken tooth.
Sentence and judge's warning
Povey admitted unlawful wounding, being concerned in the supply of cannabis and harassment. He had a previous conviction for possession of a bladed article. Judge Simon Medland KC handed him a 20-month imprisonment suspended for two years, with a rehabilitation activity requirement of up to 20 days and a three-month trail monitoring requirement, plus a five-year restraining order.
The judge told him: 'People die from getting kicked in the head, but that is what you were doing... It is worth taking a chance on you to see whether you can lead a life which doesn't hurt other people. If you don't take advantage of this, you will be the one who ends up in a prison cell.'
