Teen Charged After Woman Struck by Car in Linwood

An 18-year-old has been arrested and charged in connection with an attempted murder in Linwood, Scotland, after a 49-year-old woman was allegedly struck by a car in broad daylight. The incident occurred on Tuesday, 30 June 2026, at approximately 3:45pm on Clippens Road, outside the Our Lady of Peace nursery.

Footage from the scene shows two women standing on the pavement before a vehicle appears to deliberately strike one of them, while the other narrowly escaped being hit. The victim was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow for treatment and was later released.

Arrest and Court Appearance

The suspect, an 18-year-old, was arrested and charged on Thursday, 2 July 2026. He is due to appear at Paisley Sheriff Court. Police Scotland confirmed the incident is being treated as an attempted murder.

Detective Sergeant Kenny Taggart of Paisley CID said: “Extensive enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances and trace the car involved. I am appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident and hasn’t already spoken to officers to come forward. I would also ask anyone who was in the area and who may have dash cam or private CCTV which could assist to contact us.”

Police Appeal for Information

A Police Scotland spokesperson stated: “Officers are appealing for information following an attempted murder in Linwood. Around 3.45pm on Tuesday, 30 June, 2026, a car was deliberately driven at a 49-year-old woman on Clippens Road. She was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for treatment and later released. Anyone with any information is asked to contact 101 quoting reference 2054 of 30 June, 2026.”

A manhunt was launched to find the driver, and detectives have urged any witnesses or those with CCTV or dashcam footage to come forward.
