Marius Borg Høiby, the son of Norway's Crown Princess Mette-Marit, has appealed his four-year prison sentence for two rape offences and violence against a former partner, according to Norwegian news agency NTB. The Oslo court found him guilty on 34 charges, including the rape and abuse counts, on June 15. Prosecutors had originally sought a sentence exceeding seven years.
Appeal Details
Høiby's legal team is contesting the two rape convictions and the abuse-related guilty verdict. He was cleared of two other rape allegations and two restraining order breaches. The 27-year-old has been in custody since his arrest in February.
Health-Related Release Attempts
Before the appeal, Høiby had sought release due to his mother's ill health. Crown Princess Mette-Marit, diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis in 2018, underwent a lung transplant at Oslo University Hospital, Rikshospitalet, earlier this month. A previous release application was denied after the verdict, but Norwegian media reported that Høiby was allowed to visit his mother at the hospital. It remains unclear if he will be permitted further visits during her recovery.
