The family of a missing Northern Irish man is preparing to travel to France to search for him after he vanished from Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris. Robert Kincaid, 38, from east Belfast, has not been heard from in ten days after missing his connecting flight to Dublin on July 17.
Mr Kincaid, an oil rig worker, had been on an offshore assignment in Benin, West Africa, and was due to fly home. He missed his 7:10pm flight and later told family he had been drinking. When relatives attempted to FaceTime him at 10pm that evening, a stranger answered the call.
According to his brother Louis, the call was answered by a black man in what appeared to be a corrugated hut, who spoke broken English and said the phone battery was dying before the line went dead. A second attempt the following day connected to a woman with a crying baby in the background, after which the phone was switched off entirely.
The family has reported Mr Kincaid missing to the Police Service of Northern Ireland and contacted the British Embassy in Paris. Interpol has been involved, but no updates have been provided. The embassy confirmed Mr Kincaid is not in any hospitals or medical centres.
Louis Kincaid described the ordeal as a 'waking nightmare' and said the family will fly to France on Wednesday to conduct their own search. 'It'll be like looking for a needle in a haystack. But we can't just sit here and do nothing,' he told Belfast Live.
