Salford council worker charged with assault

A Salford City Council worker has been charged with assault following an alleged incident in Piccadilly Gardens. Hameen Hadi, 60, employed as a community youth worker, faces a charge of common assault and is due to appear at Manchester Magistrates Court on Monday, October 12.

Alleged incident at rally

The charge relates to an alleged incident on March 8 this year, when newly elected Green MP for Gorton and Denton, Hannah Spencer, was speaking at a rally. Mr Hadi has held several positions in the Salford City UNISON branch over the last two decades.

He is also the Chair of North West TUC Black Workers' Committee and the Trade Union officer for Greater Manchester Stand Up to Racism. Trade unionists and anti-racist campaigners intend to demonstrate outside the court in support of Mr Hadi.

Police statement

Greater Manchester Police said: "We can confirm that we have charged a man with assault and he is due to appear at Manchester and Salford Magistrates on Monday October 12."
