Two robbers have been jailed for a collective 18 years after humiliating their victims on social media. Richile Vangu, 20, was sentenced to 11 years imprisonment plus a three-year extended sentence, while Oluwatobiloba Akinrinola, 19, was handed a seven-year sentence. The pair had posted incriminating videos of themselves online.
How the crimes unfolded
Police first noted the pair on November 21, 2025, when footage from a party in North Kilworth, Leicestershire, was seen. Vangu began threatening partygoers with a knife and demanding they hand over designer clothing at the party, which had seen an open invitation issued on the social media platform Snapchat. Vangu went on to force attendees to transfer money to his bank account.
Another man then filmed those who were robbed by Vangu dancing for him, which the perpetrator had ordered the victims to do. Some victims were then told to head to an address in Bath Lane in Leicester after they said they could not transfer any money.
Further violence and arrests
When they arrived, Vangu fired a BB gun at them and repeatedly whipped one of the victims with a belt. Some of the group members were also punched repeatedly. These attacks were also filmed and uploaded to social media. Vangu was arrested at his London address on November 27.
During the ongoing investigation, officers found among those who had been with him were Akinrinola and two others, who were then arrested between December 3 and December 15.
Convictions and sentencing
Following the trial, Vangu was found guilty of four counts of robbery, six counts of blackmail in North Kilworth, four counts of blackmail for the incident in Bath Lane, and one count of actual bodily harm for an incident in Bath Lane. He also pleaded guilty to a further count of causing actual bodily harm relating to another victim at a previous hearing.
Akinrinola was found guilty of six counts of blackmail at the North Kilworth event, three counts of the same charge at Bath Lane, four counts of robbery in North Kilworth, and two counts of causing actual bodily harm to two victims at Bath Lane.
Detective Constable Adam Battley, the officer in the case, said: “Vangu was very much the ringleader in both incidents and clearly thought he was above the law. Thankfully, his ego got the better of him, and he decided to make sure videos of him committing his crimes were posted on social media – something which was key in securing the pair’s conviction at court. I hope the victims and the wider public can take some relief that both men have now been locked up.”
