The BBC Breakfast presenter, 51, was reportedly placed under review in August 2024 following complaints of bullying over a three-year period, including accusations of making a crude sex joke and humiliating a colleague.
Salary Details and Rich List Ranking
Munchetty's pay rose from £355,000-£359,999 last year, according to the BBC's annual list of highest-paid stars released on Tuesday. She is one of four women on the list, alongside political editor Laura Kuenssberg, Fiona Bruce, and Sophie Raworth. Kuenssberg remains the highest-paid female presenter, earning between £405,000 and £409,999. The BBC is required to publish salaries of on-air talent and senior staff earning over £178,000 from licence fee funding.
In December 2024, it was revealed Munchetty earned up to £56,000 from commercial jobs in 2024-2025, including speeches and hosting events, according to the BBC's quarterly register.
Allegations of Bullying and Investigation
Munchetty faced accusations of bullying a female colleague and using a crude sex term in 2022, described by a source as “crass, inappropriate and wildly unprofessional.” She was also accused of falsely accusing a younger staffer of theft, leading to the employee's departure. In November 2024, BBC bosses escalated the review into an official investigation after further complaints. Munchetty was allowed to remain on-air under strict monitoring by production staff, though the outcome has not been publicly disclosed.
Backlash Over Carol Kirkwood Comments
Munchetty faced criticism for remarks to weather presenter Carol Kirkwood during her final BBC Breakfast appearance in April 2025. Viewers perceived comments like “I’m just waiting for the countdown for you to go!” as rude. However, a TV insider stated the two are close personal friends, and the segment was intended as a tribute. Kirkwood later presented Munchetty with a framed illustration.
