A man turned up at the homes of strangers in the dead of night and threatened to kill them, Hamilton Sheriff Court heard.

Jason Buchanan, 31, smashed the window of one house and threw stones at a bewildered resident in another street.

Prosecutor Megan McGurk said the first incident happened in Thorntree Avenue, Hamilton, around 5am on November 27 last year.

A man heard shouting and banging at his front door and opened it to find Buchanan, who made repeated threats to kill him.

Ms McGurk told the court: “Buchanan also picked up stones and threw them at the witness and his home.

“He told the man ‘I’m going to murder you. I’m going to come right through your skull’.

“Police were contacted and officers found Buchanan in High Blantyre Road. He was caught after a brief chase.”

The second incident occurred in Udston Road around 2am on November 29.

Witnesses heard a loud bang and found a bedroom window of their home had been smashed by a brick.

They tried to speak to Buchanan but he threatened to shoot them before leaving in the direction of Burnbank.

Buchanan, formerly of George Court, Hamilton, now lives in Westwood Square, East Kilbride.

He admitted threatening or abusive behaviour towards the residents and police officers.

He also admitted rowdy behaviour at a shop and a dental practice.

Sheriff John Speir noted Buchanan has a “bad” criminal record and deferred sentence until next month for background reports and an electronic tagging assessment.
