James McKenna, 57, from Carmarthen, is on trial at Swansea Crown Court charged with the attempted murder of his ex-partner, Joanne Sidaway. The prosecution alleges that on the afternoon of January 29, McKenna ambushed Sidaway while she was walking her dog in Carmarthen Park and stabbed her multiple times in the chest with a large knife.
Prosecution Opens Case
Prosecution barrister James Wilson told the jury that McKenna left his home at 8:30am on the morning of the attack with a rucksack containing a knife measuring 30cm in total length. The attack occurred at Carmarthen Park, which borders Sidaway’s home, a place where she regularly walked her dog. Wilson stated: “On the afternoon of Thursday, January 29, James McKenna - the defendant - stabbed Joanne Sidaway, his ex-partner, to the chest area with a knife. He stabbed her multiple times.”
Paramedics Arrive
Paramedics were called to the scene at 4:16pm and found Sidaway sitting on steps, covered in blood. McKenna has admitted injuring Sidaway with a knife but denies attempting to kill her. He fled the scene after the stabbing, according to the prosecution.
Ongoing Trial
The trial continues at Swansea Crown Court, with the jury expected to hear further evidence. Police have appealed for help in locating McKenna, who was arrested shortly after the incident.
