Man Jailed 10 Years for Raping Woman Who Woke Up Unknown

Paul Glascott, 42, of Anson Road, Great Yarmouth, has been jailed for 10 years after being found guilty of raping a woman who woke up at his home with no recollection of how she arrived there. The sentence was handed down at Norwich Crown Court on July 3, 2026, following a trial in February 2026 where Glascott was convicted of rape.

Victim Woke Up at Unknown Address

On May 29, 2022, police received a call from a woman who reported waking up at an unfamiliar address, where a man had attempted to have sex with her. She had no knowledge of the man's identity, her location, or how she got there. She called officers from a friend's house and agreed to forensic examinations, which confirmed that full intercourse had occurred, despite her having no memory of it.

Glascott was identified and arrested two days later. CCTV footage showed Glascott entering a taxi and leaving the door open, with the victim entering the taxi shortly after.

Victim's Impact Statement

In a statement read to the court, the victim said: “This has affected me in so many ways, it has affected my mental health, my relationship with my partner, my relationship with my friends and has also at times impacted my job. I struggle with feeling ashamed and guilty about the impact this has had on my partner and family. This has not just affected me, but everyone around me, my whole support network who have had to support me for the last four years. In May 2022, I lost a part of myself. I lost my confidence, my sense of safety, and the life I once recognized. I feel empty and I do not know if I will ever fully regain the person I was before this happened.”

Police Comment on Sentence

Investigating officer Detective Constable Sophie Brown said: “I would like to thank the victim for her immense bravery and patience through both the investigation and legal proceedings. Glascott is a dangerous opportunist who preyed on a vulnerable woman who was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Our thoughts remain with her and we hope today’s sentence provides some measure of justice and reassurance. We will always stand beside victims to ensure those responsible are held to account.”
