Sean McGlone, a 29-year-old man from Drogheda, has appeared in court charged with dangerous driving following an incident in which Gardai said a car was driven “at a number of people” in north Dublin. Four people, including three teenagers, were injured in the incident on Harbour Road, Skerries, on Saturday night.
Court Appearance and Charges
McGlone, of Beechwood Drive, Drogheda, appeared before Balbriggan District Court on Monday morning. Detective Garda Ultan McElroy told the court that McGlone was arrested at his home address on Sunday and later charged with dangerous driving. The accused, dressed in a green t-shirt and black tracksuit bottoms, did not address the court during the short hearing.
Details of the Incident
Gardaí said they responded to a public order incident at approximately 9:45pm on Saturday after “a large number of youths gathered and an altercation broke out.” A spokesperson stated: “During the course of the incident, a car drove at a number of people.” Three teenagers – two female and one male – were taken to Beaumont Hospital for treatment with non-life-threatening injuries. A fourth person, a male, was later reported to have been injured.
Bail Conditions
Gardaí had no objection to the granting of bail but requested several restrictions. In consultation with McGlone’s legal representative, barrister Pearse Collins, Ms Justice Stephanie Coggins imposed conditions requiring McGlone to sign on three times a week at Drogheda Garda Station, stay out of Balbriggan and Skerries, avoid any contact with potential witnesses, and avoid alcohol. Collins noted that McGlone is employed as a van driver in Duleek, earning approximately €700 per week, and travels nationwide for work. The M1 road was excluded from the bail conditions.
Next Court Appearance
McGlone was granted bail on his own bond of €5,000 with a €1,000 cash lodgement. He is scheduled to appear before the court again on September 23.
