A 65-year-old man has been charged by police after unknown human remains were discovered inside a flat in St Helens, Merseyside. The grim find was made on Thursday night following a concern for safety call.
Discovery and Arrest at Gerards Court
Officers were called to an address on Gerards Court at approximately 11.30pm on Thursday, 8 January. After responding to the welfare report, they made the shocking discovery of human remains inside the property. George Gordon, 65, of Gerards Court, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder.
He has since been formally charged with two offences: preventing the lawful and decent burial of a dead body and obstructing a coroner in the execution of his duty. Mr Gordon was remanded in custody and appeared at Liverpool Magistrates' Court on Monday, 12 January.
Ongoing Investigation and Second Arrest
The investigation remains active and extensive. As part of the same enquiry, a second scene was established on Douglas Road in Anfield on Friday. A white forensic tent was erected and a mobile police station set up nearby.
Detectives have also arrested a 58-year-old man from St Helens on suspicion of assisting an offender. He remains in police custody for questioning. House-to-house enquiries, CCTV reviews and detailed forensic examinations are continuing.
