A 28-year-old man has been arrested following a 5am assault in Manchester city centre that left the victim with a broken jaw. The attack occurred outside a club on Richmond Street in Manchester's Gay Village on March 29, according to Greater Manchester Police.
Arrest Made Following Public Appeal
Officers confirmed the arrest after an appeal for information. The suspect was taken into custody in Cheshire on Saturday, July 18, 2026, on suspicion of assault and remains in custody for questioning. Police believe the male victim had spoken to a group of men who had been insulting a female before he was allegedly assaulted, sustaining a broken jaw that has since required several surgeries.
Police Statement on the Attack
Detective Constable Eleanor Fitzpatrick of City of Manchester Central CID described the incident as a “horrific attack” and stated: “This was a horrific attack on a man who it is believed was simply looking after his friend. Following our appeal for information, we had a number of calls from the community with further intelligence. Thanks to the members of public who came forward, we were able to liaise with other forces to share our appeal wider and a 28-year-old man was arrested in Cheshire yesterday on suspicion of assault. He currently remains in custody for questioning.”
