Man arrested after two found dead in St Leonards home

Sussex Police have launched a murder investigation after the bodies of a 66-year-old man and a 46-year-old woman were discovered at a property in St Leonards. A 58-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody.

Police called to Seven Acre Close after reports of injuries

Officers were called to the home on Seven Acre Close shortly after 4:30am on Tuesday, 30 June, following reports that a man and a woman had been injured. Upon arrival, they found the two deceased individuals.

Detective Superintendent Jay Mendis-Gunasekera said: "This is a tragic loss of life and our thoughts are with the victims and their families and friends at this very difficult time. We have arrested a 58-year-old man on suspicion of the murder of a man and a woman, and he remains in custody at this time."

Suspect and victims known to each other

Police have established that the suspect and victims were known to each other and are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident. The investigation is ongoing, and an increased police presence will remain in the area while enquiries continue.

"This is a fast-moving investigation as we seek to understand the wider circumstances of what happened," added Detective Superintendent Mendis-Gunasekera.

Appeal for information and footage

Sussex Police have urged members of the public with any relevant information, including CCTV, doorbell, mobile phone or dashcam footage, to come forward. Anyone with information should report online or call 101, quoting Operation Newington.
