Michael Kenneth Scott, 35, has appeared in court charged with shooting a man in the neck with an air rifle outside a Go Local shop in Melling, Merseyside. The incident occurred on Wednesday, July 1, and Scott faced South Sefton Magistrates' Court on July 3, where he spoke only to confirm his name, date of birth, and address.
Details of the Incident
Merseyside Police were called at approximately 11:15 am on July 1 to reports that a 44-year-old man had been shot in the neck with an air rifle on Waddicar Lane. The victim was taken to hospital and remains in a stable condition. Armed police responded to the scene, and Scott was arrested shortly after.
Scott has been charged with section 18 wounding with intent and possessing a firearm with intent to commit an indictable offence. District Judge James Hatton remanded him in custody during the brief hearing, with a preparation hearing scheduled for July 31.
Community Reaction
Local residents reported that the injured man was "sitting up" before being taken to hospital in an ambulance and "thankfully seemed ok" following the shooting. The police cordon remained in place on Waddicar Lane for several hours as investigations continued.
