An American former beauty queen, awaiting trial in the Bahamas over allegations she conspired to murder her wealthy husband, is pleading with a court to remove her 'embarrassing' GPS ankle tag so she can return to the beach, become an influencer, and revive her modelling career.
The Ankle Monitor 'Trauma' and Career Ambitions
Lindsay Shiver, 39, has worn the bulky electronic tracker for more than two years while on bail. In a new petition to the Nassau Supreme Court, she complains the device causes painful bruises and sores on her ankle, disrupts her sleep, and traumatises her three young sons. She reportedly hides it as best she can to avoid embarrassing the boys, which often means skipping routine family activities.
According to sources familiar with her legal paperwork, a significant grievance is that the gadget cannot get wet, ruling out swimming or trips to the beach. The newly brunette mother of three is also seeking permission to move back to Thomasville, Georgia, where she previously shared a $3 million mansion with her estranged husband, Robert Shiver.
She claims to have several job offers there, including modelling and influencer work for a fashion boutique, but states she needs the restrictive tag removed before she can start. Shiver argues that gaining employment would help replenish her finances after over two years of draining legal fees.
A Paradise Life Allegedly Shattered by a Murder Plot
From the outside, the Shivers appeared to have an idyllic life: three children, a seven-bedroom mansion, a private jet, and a vacation home in the ultra-exclusive Baker's Bay resort in the Bahamas, a haven for celebrities like Tom Brady and Michael Jordan.
This facade crumbled in April 2023 when Robert Shiver, a former American football star for Auburn University, filed for divorce, accusing his wife of infidelity. Lindsay Shiver countered with allegations of 'physical and mentally cruel treatment'.
The situation escalated dramatically three months later. In July 2023, Bahamian authorities charged Lindsay Shiver with conspiring with her barman lover, Adrien Bethel, 30, to have his childhood friend, Faron Newbold Jr., kill Robert. Prosecution documents allege Shiver sent Newbold Jr. pictures of her husband drinking in a bar near their home with a WhatsApp message stating 'kill him'.
The case reportedly hinges on a disputed police interview where Shiver admitted telling Bethel she 'wanted to kill' Robert and that Bethel 'understood'. However, in the same interview, she insisted any talk of murder was 'said out of anger and frustration'.
Legal Delays and a Costly TV Appearance
Shiver's trial, initially scheduled for March 2026, has faced multiple delays as the Bahamian justice system contends with underfunding and a significant case backlog. If found guilty, she faces a potential sentence of up to 60 years in a Bahamian prison.
A judge previously allowed her to leave the Bahamas and reside in the US under strict conditions, including 24-hour electronic monitoring. She currently lives with her parents at their remote ranch in Abbeville, Alabama.
Her bail terms were severely tested in October 2024 after she appeared in a Good Morning America segment about her case. While she did not speak on camera, footage of her 'parading in a blue sundress' prompted Judge Cheryl Grant-Thompson to rescind her $100,000 bail. The judge ruled the TV cameo a 'blatant disregard for the laws of The Bahamas', where pre-trial publicity that could influence jurors is forbidden. Shiver consequently spent four months, including the holiday season, in a Bahamian prison until her release in February.
The Nassau Supreme Court is set to hear her arguments regarding the ankle monitor and relocation request on December 8. Shiver is expected to attend in person, while Robert Shiver will likely give his response via videolink. He has never spoken publicly about the case but was briefly linked to reality TV star Savannah Chrisley, who publicly condemned Lindsay Shiver for causing 'mass destruction for the family'.
