A former Partick Thistle youth goalkeeper has been granted bail after appearing in court charged with the hit and run killing of a barman.
Luis Cameron, 19, allegedly assaulted Daniel Colrain, 21, in Glasgow city centre's Royal Exchange Square in the early hours of Sunday, October 4. Court papers state Cameron, of Paisley, Renfrewshire, punched Mr Colrain on the head.
It is claimed that this rendered him unconscious and that he fell then struck his head off the ground. A second allegation says Cameron attempted to pervert the course of justice by booking a flight from Glasgow to Dubai on October 4.
Alleged attempt to avoid capture
He is stated to have left the scene of the assault, attended the Royal Alexandria Hospital in Paisley and pretended that he injured his hand by hitting a wall.
The charge goes on to say that he then went to Glasgow Airport in an attempt to avoid capture and prosecution for the culpable homicide charge.
Mr Colrain was found with serious injuries around 3.05am on Sunday morning and died in hospital the following day. Mr Colrain's family are being supported by specialist officers.
Football career and court hearing
His most recent club is United Arab Emirates team Arabian Falcons after sealing a free transfer in July this year. Cameron, who played in Partick Thistle's youth set up, has also appeared for junior outfit Drumchapel United on loan.
Cameron made no plea during a private hearing at Glasgow Sheriff Court and was represented by his lawyer Paul Sweeney. He was granted bail and committed for further examination by Sheriff Helen McGinty. Cameron will appear at court again at a later date.
Tributes and fundraiser
Tributes were paid to Mr Colrain after his death, including from his former employers, The Smiddy Bar, in the city's Cathcart. The pub has also launched a fundraiser to help cover the costs of his funeral.
A statement said: "We are completely heartbroken to share that our dear colleague and friend, Daniel, has passed away. To know Daniel was to experience his warmth and kindness firsthand.
"Over the past three years at The Smiddy, he built wonderful friendships with every member of our staff and became a cherished part of our close-knit group.
"He knew all of our regulars by name, chatted with them for hours, and was a beloved presence in the community where he grew up. He brought so much light to our team and will be dearly, dearly missed.
"During this difficult time, we are raising funds to support Daniel's family and assist with his funeral and memorial arrangements.
"If you are able to contribute or share this page, any support would be deeply appreciated. All of our thoughts, love, and condolences are with his family."
