A homeless man has appeared in court charged with the murder of a pregnant woman and her partner in Melbourne's south-east. Ross Judd, 34, faces two counts of murder after the bodies of Athena Georgopoulos, 39, and a 50-year-old man were found in a home in Mount Waverley on Monday night.
During a brief hearing at Melbourne Magistrates Court on Wednesday, the police prosecutor requested a 10-week extension to prepare a brief of evidence, citing the complexity of the crime scene and the need for extensive DNA analysis. The prosecutor noted that one of the victims was pregnant, which had contributed to delays in completing autopsies.
Judd, who appeared in the dock with a short black beard and mohawk-style haircut, spoke only to confirm he understood his next court date. His defence lawyer, Annie Allan, said it was his first time in custody and requested he see a prison nurse for medication follow-up.
Police were called to the property at 9.20pm after a neighbour reported hearing yelling. A second call indicated the situation was more urgent, and officers arrived at 9.50pm to find the two bodies. Judd was later arrested at Westall railway station, about 6km away, while accompanied by two large dogs.
Athena Georgopoulos's mother paid tribute to her daughter on Facebook, writing in Greek: 'These last days you were so happy, we dreamed together about our granddaughter who you would bring into this life and suddenly all was extinguished in one night.' She added that her daughter was due to give birth in four months.
Judd is scheduled to appear via video link on 13 January 2026.
