An 86-year-old woman has been arrested after police discovered human remains buried at a property in Leicester, believed to date back to the 1970s. The arrest followed an anonymous tip-off that a body may have been interred at the address on Wolverton Road over 45 years ago.
Leicestershire Police executed search warrants at the residential property on Saturday, July 19, and a scene preservation remains in place. A second warrant was also carried out at a property on Dumbleton Avenue, approximately half a mile away, on the same day.
The elderly woman is currently in custody being questioned by detectives. The force has stated that officers will remain at both addresses to conduct thorough searches.
Detective Inspector Neil Holden, from the East Midlands Special Operations Unit's major crime team, described the investigation as 'very complex and sensitive,' adding that it will take time. He urged the public to avoid speculation and misinformation, and to contact police with any relevant information.
