The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has opened a criminal investigation into a YouTube channel with links to the Conservative Party, following allegations it filmed inside a working prison without permission.
The probe centres on a video reportedly shot inside HMP Peterborough, a category B prison holding both male and female inmates. The Ministry of Justice (MoJ) lodged a formal complaint with the CPS after the footage appeared online, prompting the serious security breach investigation.
A CPS spokesperson confirmed the action, stating: "We have received a file from the Ministry of Justice and are investigating potential offences related to filming inside HMP Peterborough."
The incident raises significant concerns about prison security and the potential exploitation of inmates for content. Filming within UK prisons without official authorisation is strictly prohibited, primarily to protect the safety and privacy of both staff and those in custody.
