A Russian cannibal has described how he killed his girlfriend, ate her brain and drank her blood, telling police he 'liked the taste of her brain'. Dmitry Luchin, 21, murdered Olga Budunova, 45, by striking her with a wine bottle 25 times before dismembering her body with a meat cleaver.
Luchin, who became obsessed with cannibalism after reading about Jeffrey Dahmer, roasted and ate parts of his victim's brain and drank her blood. He told police: 'I liked the taste of her brain. I decided to give it another try. Then I drained some of her blood into a glass.' The murder occurred in Budunova's flat, where the couple had planned to celebrate International Women's Day.
A witness, Alexandra Dedova, 21, who was present to confirm police did not tamper with evidence, described the ritualistic nature of the killing. She said Luchin painted a sign of the devil on the door using blood from Budunova's cracked skull, hoping to summon the devil. After waiting five minutes, he proceeded to smash her skull with the meat cleaver, cut out pieces of brain, roasted and ate them.
Prosecutor Olga Bondarenko detailed further atrocities: 'Next he cut out her stomach, and chopped off her ears. One he put into her mouth, the other into the cat's bowl.' Luchin also placed a wine bottle into the victim's vagina and pleasured himself. The court heard Luchin was sane and fit to stand trial, with 'the intelligence of a philosopher'. He claimed the murder was to gain inspiration for writing poetry and subscribed to a website called 'World of maniacs and serial killers'.
Luchin faces a life sentence if convicted of murder and desecration of a corpse. His request for a closed trial was rejected by the judge.
