Residents on a Prescot newbuild estate reported hearing shouts and screams before armed police swarmed the area. Multiple police cars and officers were called to the Halsnead Garden Village estate, off Lickers Lane, at 9.55am today, Friday (July 24), after a man was attacked.
Police presence and cordon
A police helicopter circled overhead, and residents reported seeing drones flying above as officers carried out door-to-door enquiries. Redware Lane was cordoned off, with two police cars parked on the street. A scientific support unit and a police van were visible on nearby Parr Avenue. A large number of workmen at the newbuild site gathered in the area.
Details of the incident
A Merseyside Police spokesman said that at around 9.55am, a man approached a van parked on a road inside Halsnead Garden Village and assaulted a man inside. The offender then ran off toward Fox Bank Lane. The victim, a man in his 40s, sustained a minor injury to his mouth and broken teeth.
A woman living on Parr Avenue told the ECHO: "There was police, a helicopter, drones, the road was blocked off. We've only just been allowed out. It was (closed for) about an hour, from 10 until 11. I heard people shouting, but because they're working behind us anyway, I'm used to it. The builders shouting to one another, pass us this, pass us that. So it was no different for me, I just thought it was the builders shouting to each other. I probably heard it and wasn't even aware of what was going on."
