Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan will remain behind bars in a Florida jail as they continue to fight their extradition to the United Kingdom on new rape and sex-trafficking charges. The influencer brothers made their first appearance at the Wilkie D. Ferguson Jr. US Courthouse in downtown Miami on Saturday, following their arrest.
Judge Orders Detention Pending Extradition Decision
The pair must remain in custody as a judge considers whether to send them back to the UK to face prosecution. Malcolm McHaffie, head of the special crime division at the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), confirmed the charges in a statement: 'We have decided to prosecute Andrew and Tristan Tate for further offences including rape, arranging or facilitating trafficking for sexual exploitation and offences relating to indecent images of a child.'
McHaffie added that the decision followed receipt of a further file of evidence from Bedfordshire Police, bringing the total number of alleged victims in the case to seven. He emphasised that criminal proceedings are active and that the defendants have the right to a fair trial, urging the public not to report, comment, or share information online that could prejudice the proceedings.
CPS Requests Extradition from US
The CPS has formally requested the extradition of the Tates from the United States. They have been arrested and are now awaiting extradition proceedings to the UK. Bedfordshire Police confirmed that the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit continues to investigate other offences reported to them and Hertfordshire Constabulary.
Bedfordshire Police Assistant Chief Constable Karena Thomas stated: 'There is no place for male violence against women and girls, and we will continue to work tirelessly to support victims and investigate all reports made to us.' The brothers face 38 new charges in total, including rape and sex trafficking, as part of an ongoing investigation.
