Three Plead Guilty to £225k Richmond Jewellery Robbery

Three men who smashed through the window of a jewellery shop in Richmond before making off with jewels worth £225,000 have each pleaded guilty to conspiracy to rob. Deniz Mehmet, 28, of Basildon, Essex; Robert Clarke, 50, of Rochford, Essex; and Lee Ramsey, 46, of Harlow, Essex, each admitted their guilt at Kingston Crown Court. All three were remanded in custody and will be sentenced on Friday, 24 July.

Viral Footage Sparked Outrage

A video of the robbery at the jewellery shop in Paved Court, Richmond, on Saturday, January 31, caused widespread shock after it was shared online. The Met Police immediately launched an investigation. Specialist officers carried out an extensive review of CCTV footage, alongside forensic analysis and the recovery of a vehicle believed to be linked to the robbery. This painstaking work led to the identification of the three suspects – who were arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit robbery.

Arrests and Investigation

Police detained two of the men on Tuesday, March 31, and the third on Wednesday, April 8 – all at addresses in Essex. Detective Superintendent Dan Mitchell, from the Met’s Flying Squad, said: “Robberies of this kind cause real concern for residents and businesses in the communities that are targeted. It’s they who feel the immediate impact.”
