A 19-year-old man is fighting for his life in a medically induced coma after a devastating house fire in Blackpool. Joey Gregory suffered life-threatening burns in the blaze, which also left a 13-year-old boy in serious condition.
Father's Emotional Plea
Joey's father, Harry Gregory, described his son as 'in a bad way' in a Facebook post. He wrote: 'Please please please say a prayer for him and another young lad.. give your kids an extra hug today as you never know what's round the corner!' The family remains at Wythenshawe Hospital, where Joey is on a ventilator.
Fundraising Efforts
A GoFundMe page has raised more than £9,000 towards an £11,000 target. The page states Joey's life 'changed forever' in the 'catastrophic house fire' and that his recovery will be 'unimaginably long and difficult.' It adds: 'We're asking for help to ease some of the financial burden during this incredibly challenging time.'
Emergency Response
The fire broke out at a property on Redcar Road at around 9:37 am on Tuesday, June 30. Five fire engines and a command support unit were dispatched, with crews using breathing apparatus, hose reels, and a jet to extinguish the blaze. Police and fire investigators remain on scene to determine the cause. Police confirmed three other people suffered minor injuries.
