A teenager has been charged and six other people arrested after shots were reportedly fired at two properties in the North East. Police are investigating after reports a firearm was discharged at a home on Flint Close in Grangetown at around 10.50pm on July 22. Two people were inside the property at the time.
Second incident and arrests
Armed police were then dispatched to Bevanlee Road, in South Bank, at 3.15pm on July 23 following reports of a firearm being discharged at a property. No injuries have been reported as a result of either of the incidents. A teenager has now been charged in relation to the alleged Flint Close shooting, TeessideLive reports.
Leo Durrant-Hoe, 19, of Burnie Gardens in Shildon, was due to appear at Teesside Magistrates’ Court today (July 24). He is charged with possession of a firearm and possession of ammunition.
A 42-year-old man and a 40-year-old woman were both quizzed on suspicion of assisting an offender. They have since been bailed pending further enquiries.
Late on Thursday, further arrests were made by officers. Two men, aged 40 and 23 from Hartlepool, and a 32-year-old man from Newcastle were arrested on suspicion of possessing a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence. A 34-year-old woman was also arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.
Police response
Cleveland Police issued a Section 60 order, granting powers to stop and search any individual when appropriate. This was imposed from 6.20pm on Thursday and will remain in place for 24 hours.
Chief Superintendent Louise Galliott-Thornton said: "There will continue to be a strong policing presence in these areas for your reassurance, and I would encourage anyone who has any concerns to please speak to our officers. I would also urge anyone with information, dash cam or doorbell footage to get in touch either by contacting 101 or visiting our website quoting reference number 145138."
