Rapist Damien Jones Gets 23-Year Sentence for Child Abuse

Damien Jones, a 40-year-old man from Heol Cae Pownd, Cefneithin, Llanelli, has been handed a 23-year special sentence as an offender of particular concern for a series of sexual offences against a young girl. The offending spanned from 2013 to 2021, involving repeated rapes, sexual assaults, and inciting the child to engage in sexual activity.

Conviction and Sentence

Jones denied all wrongdoing but was convicted at Swansea Crown Court on 16 counts of sexual offences against a child. The charges included four counts of rape of a girl under 13, two counts of sexual assault by touching of a girl under 13, three counts of sexual assault involving penetration of a girl under 13, and seven counts of inciting a girl under 16 to engage in sexual activity.

The court imposed a special sentence comprising 22 years in custody followed by a one-year licence period. Jones can apply for release after serving two-thirds of the custodial element, but the Parole Board will determine if he is safe for release. He will be a registered sex offender for life and is subject to an indefinite sexual harm prevention order and restraining order.

Police Praise for Victim

After sentencing, Detective Constable Leanne Morris from Dyfed-Powys Police CID praised the victim's bravery. She said: “I would like to take this opportunity to first and foremost commend the bravery shown by the victim in this case. They have shown incredible courage to provide their account to us as well as appearing in court to give evidence during this trial. We are incredibly grateful for their strength and fortitude in ensuring that Jones has been brought before the courts and ultimately sentenced.”

Morris added: “Jones is clearly an incredibly dangerous individual and today’s sentence reflects the nature of his depraved crimes. Thankfully he is now no longer a danger to the public. The investigation team in this case have shown excellent professionalism and hard work in obtaining this result.”
