An investigation has been launched after a man believed to be a construction worker died falling from a building at Birmingham Children's Hospital on Friday, July 10, 2026. Emergency services were called to the hospital just before 10 a.m. following reports of a fall.

The man was reportedly working on a construction site at the hospital when the incident occurred. West Midlands Police confirmed that the man was pronounced dead shortly after the fall. The force is liaising with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) as part of the ongoing investigation.

Birmingham Women’s and Children’s NHS Foundation Trust expressed condolences, stating: “There has been an incident at a construction site at Birmingham Children's Hospital. Our sympathies are with the family and friends of the individual involved. Support is being provided to those who have been affected.”
BSN Group Construction, the contractor believed to be employing the man, also issued a statement: “We are saddened to confirm that a person has died following an incident at our construction site at Birmingham Children’s Hospital on Friday, 10 July. Our thoughts are with their family, friends and colleagues at this extremely difficult time. We take health and safety very seriously, and we are assisting the police, the Health and Safety Executive and all relevant authorities with their enquiries. As investigations are ongoing, it would not be appropriate to comment further at this stage.”
Police Response
A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: “We were called to Birmingham Children's Hospital after a man is understood to have fallen from the building at just before 9.50am today (10 July). The man was sadly confirmed dead a short time later and our thoughts are with his loved ones. We are liaising with the Health & Safety Executive as enquiries continue.”
Context
The tragedy occurred a day after Prince Harry visited the hospital during his tour of the region, ahead of the Invictus Games scheduled in the city next year. The hospital is currently undergoing construction work as part of ongoing development projects.
