The mysterious death of a convicted sex offender at HMP Preston has prompted an official inquest to determine the circumstances behind the tragic incident.
Paul Harrison, 35, was discovered unresponsive in his cell at the Category B men's prison on May 11th, 2022. Despite immediate efforts by prison staff and paramedics, Harrison was pronounced dead at the scene.
Troubled Past and Violent Offences
Harrison had been serving time for horrific sexual offences against a child under 13. Lancashire Police confirmed his criminal history included multiple disturbing acts that had devastated the victim's family.
The inquest hearing at Preston Coroner's Court revealed that Harrison's death remains officially 'unexplained,' with no clear cause established during initial investigations.
Ongoing Investigation
Coroner Richard Archer has adjourned the inquest pending further investigation into the circumstances. The case has been referred to the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman for independent review.
A spokesperson for the Ministry of Justice confirmed: 'HMP Preston prison staff responded immediately and paramedics were called, but sadly he was pronounced dead at the scene. Our thoughts are with his family at this difficult time.'
The investigation continues as authorities work to determine the exact events leading to Harrison's untimely death.
