Lee Jones, of Pilton Road, appeared at Newcastle Magistrates' Court on Thursday charged with one count of wounding with intent and one count of possession of an offensive weapon in a public place. The charges follow a 'disturbance' on a residential street in Westerhope at around 10.30pm on Monday, which prompted armed police to attend as a 'precaution'.
Woman injured
A woman in her 50s was taken to hospital with minor injuries but has since been discharged. Police remained in the area until around midday on Tuesday, with vehicles parked around Brockwell Grove, Pilton Road and Rapperton Court.
Resident comments
A local resident, who spoke anonymously, said: "There's a lot of stuff goes on, it's just one of those streets, but I haven't seen this type of police presence in forever. We have had them before but not like this, it is worrying. I asked the police if I had anything to worry about and they said no, but obviously they're not going to tell us anything."

Jones is due to appear at Newcastle Crown Court on Wednesday, August 19.
