Manhunt for 43-Year-Old Attempted Murderer Who Fled Open Prison
Manhunt for prisoner who fled HMP Thorn Cross

A major police manhunt is underway across the North West and beyond after a convicted violent offender serving a lengthy sentence for attempted murder absconded from an open prison.

Details of the Escape and Offender

Kieran Cameron, aged 43, was reported missing from HMP Thorn Cross, a Category D open prison in Warrington, at 9.20pm on Tuesday evening. Cameron is currently serving a substantial 23-year prison sentence for a brutal attempted murder in Dorset.

The conviction relates to a horrific attack in Poole in 2016, where a man in his twenties was stabbed in the neck and stomach. The victim suffered ten separate stab wounds and required serious surgery to treat his life-threatening injuries.

Public Warning and Description

Cheshire Police have issued a stern warning to the public, urging people not to approach Cameron under any circumstances. Instead, anyone who sees him should immediately call 999. Information on his whereabouts can be reported to the non-emergency number 101.

Cameron is described as a white male, approximately 5 feet 6 inches tall, of medium build. He has heavily receding hair and a distinctive ginger and grey beard. The force has highlighted that he has extensive known links to the Manchester, Liverpool, and Dorset areas, suggesting these may be focal points for the search.

Police Appeal and Recent Incidents

Detective Chief Inspector Nick Henderson, of the Serious and Organised Crime Unit at Cheshire Police, stated: "We are appealing for the help of the public to trace Kieran Cameron, who is unlawfully at large after leaving HMP Thorn Cross in Warrington. If you see him, do not approach him, call 999 immediately."

This incident follows closely on the heels of another high-profile prison escape. On New Year's Day, two inmates, including a convicted murderer, absconded from HMP Leyhill, an open prison in Gloucestershire. Both men, Matthew Armstrong, 35, and Daniel Washbourne, 40, were subsequently arrested after being spotted by members of the public. A third escapee from that incident was recaptured last Saturday.

The search for Kieran Cameron continues as authorities work to locate the dangerous fugitive and return him to custody.
