Greater Manchester Police have launched an urgent manhunt for Marwan Jumaa, a 20-year-old prisoner who escaped custody after being transferred from a secure psychiatric facility to North Manchester Hospital for medical treatment. Jumaa fled the hospital on Tuesday night, July 14, 2026, and is considered a high risk to both himself and the public.

Details of the Escape

Jumaa was serving a prison sentence for assaults on two women when he was moved to the hospital for care. He is described as black, approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall, with a thin build and short, dark hair. Police believe he has connections to several areas, including Crumpsall, Prestwich, and Bury in Greater Manchester, as well as Leeds and London.

Public Warning and Police Response

Detective Chief Inspector Abigail Cronin of Greater Manchester Police stated: “We are urging anybody to come forward who may have information about Marwan’s whereabouts. I recognise that this may heighten concern within the community. However, I want to assure you that we have officers working around the clock to find Marwan and return him to hospital as soon as possible. If sighted, do not approach him, please call 999 immediately, quoting log number 3544 of 14/07/2026.”
