Man with 69 convictions jailed for public sex in Leeds

Bobby Taylor, a 37-year-old homeless man with 69 previous convictions, has been sentenced to four months in prison for having sex with a homeless woman on a Leeds city centre street in broad daylight. The incident occurred on Belgrave Street on June 22, 2026, and lasted over 10 minutes, leaving witnesses shocked.

Court hearing

At Leeds Crown Court, Recorder Ward told Taylor: "Bobby Taylor I have to sentence you for outraging public decency. In the early afternoon of the 22nd of June 2026, you had sex with a woman in public view in Leeds city centre. It lasted over 10 minutes. Many people witnessed this and one witness was shocked at what he saw."

The court heard that Taylor was on licence at the time, having been imprisoned for 30 months in 2025 for two counts of sexual assault. He was recalled to custody after this latest offence. Recorder Ward added: "It was aggravated by the fact you were intoxicated through drink."

Defence statement

Matthew Stewart, defending, said: "He had a troubled upbringing and was exposed to family members using drugs from a young age. He would regularly move between houses due to the lifestyle his mother and other family members were living. He accepts the use of drugs has been a battle in his life. He was released in October 2025 and was out of trouble until this in June 2026. That's a long period out of trouble in the context of his previous offending. He had stable accommodation at The Crypt and has been repeatedly reducing his methadone and is no longer on it. He is on no anxiety and depression medication and is fully clean while making steps while he had his liberty but also in prison. He accepts he had a drink problem in the past and accepts he was drinking on the date of this offence due to the weather in the city centre. He has tried to get a job in prison and education and wants to move back to his recall prison HMP Moorland for that. His release date is the 11th of January, 2027."
