A man who hid a rucksack containing drugs and cash under his jumper for a friend was sentenced to 17 months in prison. Arash Mohammadi, 32, of no fixed abode, appeared at Swansea Crown Court via video-link from Swansea prison.
Incident details
The court heard that on April 11, 2025, South Wales Police attended a property in Griffith John Street, Waun Wen, Swansea, to arrest a woman in relation to drugs offences. Officers became concerned that Mohammadi was in possession of drugs and searched him, finding the rucksack concealed inside his jumper.
The rucksack contained 28.5 grams of cocaine and £1,610.88 in cash. Mohammadi had been given the rucksack by the woman and was hiding it on her behalf.
Court proceedings
Harry Dickens, prosecuting, outlined the facts. Recorder David Harris told Mohammadi: “Plainly by giving you the bag, the plan was for it to be concealed from police who had attended the property that day. That did not happen, you were searched and the rucksack was found on your person, concealed beneath a jumper, and when it was opened, cash and cocaine were discovered.”
Mohammadi admitted being in possession of cocaine with intent to supply and being in possession of criminal property.
Defence and sentence
Samuel Jenkins, representing Mohammadi, said: “It is a unique set of circumstances in that he had the drugs handed to him to take custody of whilst police were entering the building. At the time of the offence, he had no fixed address. He has abstained from drug use whilst in prison, works as a cleaner, and has improved his education when it comes to reading and writing. He is an Iranian national but has a good grasp of English. He has applied for a renewed immigration claim whilst in prison.”
Recorder Harris sentenced Mohammadi to 17 months in prison.
