A man who travelled from England to Wales was jailed after police discovered a large quantity of drugs and cash hidden in his vehicle.
Florin Kasmi, 37, parked his white MG in a car park off Little Water Street in Carmarthen on Monday, August 3. Officers from Dyfed-Powys Police had received information that the car was being used to transport drugs from England into Carmarthenshire.
Drugs and cash found in car
Having identified a suspicious travel pattern relating to his car, officers detained Kasmi under the Misuse of Drugs Act to carry out a search. In the boot of the vehicle, police found a package wrapped in a black bin bag containing a large amount of cannabis which had been split into four vacuum-sealed bags.
In the glove compartment, officers also found a white plastic bag with red writing containing more than £12,700 in cash. Kasmi, of Golders Green, London, was arrested and taken into police custody.
Street value estimated at £40,000
A drugs expert at Dyfed-Powys Police estimated the 4.54kg of cannabis seized from Kasmi’s car could carry a street value of around £40,000. Kasmi gave no comment in his interview but later pleaded guilty to possession with intent to supply Class B drugs and possession of criminal property before being sentenced at Swansea Crown Court.
DC Tom Morgan of Dyfed-Powys Police’s Serious and Organised Crime Unit said: “The distribution of cannabis often relies on serious levels of exploitation at different stages in the supply chain.
“Supplying cannabis is a serious crime and by stopping these individuals in their tracks we remove harmful drugs from our streets and tackle the wider drugs network that exists to exploit vulnerable people.
“Regardless of where you come from, if you bring drugs into the Dyfed-Powys area, you will be caught and you will be dealt with robustly.
“The sentencing of Florin Kasmi highlights our commitment to making Dyfed-Powys hostile to those who deal drugs.”
Kasmi was sentenced to two years in prison.
