Janice Combs, mother of Sean 'Diddy' Combs, has criticised Netflix's new docuseries Sean Combs: The Reckoning, calling it full of 'inaccuracies' about her son's upbringing and their relationship. In a statement to Rolling Stone, she denied allegations that she was an 'abusive parent' and disputed claims made by a childhood friend and a former business partner.
The four-part series, released on Tuesday, features assertions from Tim Patterson, an alleged childhood friend, and Kirk Burrowes, co-founder of Bad Boy Entertainment. Janice Combs accused Patterson of making 'not truthful and salacious' claims to promote the series, and called Burrowes' statement that her son once slapped her 'patently false'. She described Combs as a 'dutiful son' who supported her financially and medically.
Janice Combs said she was a single mother who worked multiple jobs to provide for her son, and that he was a 'respectful and diligent child'. She requested that the 'distortions, falsehoods and misleading statements be publicly retracted'.
Representatives for Combs, who is serving 50 months for transportation to engage in prostitution, previously branded the docuseries 'fundamentally unfair and illegal', accusing Netflix of sensationalism. Netflix responded, stating the claims are false, that footage was legally obtained, and that the series is not a 'hit piece'.
