Escaped prisoner Stephen Grzyb back in custody

Stephen Grzyb, 22, who ran off from outside Liverpool Magistrates' Court on Saturday, has been arrested and is back in custody, Merseyside Police said.

Details of the escape

Grzyb, of Princess Drive, Liverpool, was due to appear in court charged with a domestic burglary. He fled down Red Cross Street in the direction of The Strand just after 10am after being taken to the court from a police custody suite by security firm GeoAmey, which is contracted by the Ministry of Justice to transport prisoners.

According to its website, the firm oversees more than 8,500 prisoner movements every week.

Police statement

In a statement on Tuesday, Merseyside Police said: "An escaped prisoner who absconded outside Liverpool Magistrates' Court after being transported from Belle Vale custody suite by GeoAmey has been arrested and is in custody."
