Emmerdale fans are fearing that Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) will be sent to prison for the death of Dr. Caitlin Todd, potentially marking her exit from the ITV soap after 25 years. The fear comes after the police arrested Charity and her granddaughter Sarah Sugden (Katie Hill) following Todd's accidental death.
Dr. Todd's Death and Arrest
In the latest episodes, Dr. Todd (Caroline Harker), who had been bullying Jacob Gallagher (Joe-Warren Plant) and sexually assaulting Charity, entered Charity's home uninvited. Charity encouraged Todd to stay and listen as she unpacked her trauma, but Todd refused to admit her actions. Sarah arrived and, after an argument, shoved Todd, who slipped on a rug and crashed into a coffee table, dying instantly.
Serena Sugden (Casey Al-Shaqsy) advised Charity and Sarah on what to say about Todd's death before leaving. The police arrived on Tuesday (August 11) and confirmed Todd was dead. Charity took the blame to protect Sarah, and both were arrested and taken to the station for questioning.

DS Ramsden (Chelsea Edge) told Charity that the investigation might rule out a revenge killing, as the detectives weren't convinced by the self-defence story. Sarah was allowed to return to the village, but Charity was forced to sleep at the police station overnight while the murder investigation continued.
