Bosnian Serb General Ratko Mladic Dies at 84

Ratko Mladic, the former Bosnian Serb general known as the 'Butcher of Bosnia', has died at the age of 84 while serving a life sentence for his role in the country's 1992-95 war.

Detained Since 2011

Mladic had been in a United Nations detention centre since being arrested in 2011, after he was held criminally responsible for the deaths of tens of thousands of people.

Legacy of the Srebrenica Massacre

He was found guilty of genocide, including for the Srebrenica massacre, the worst atrocity on European soil since the Second World War. His conviction marked a landmark moment in international justice for the conflicts that tore apart the former Yugoslavia.
