A plane crash in the Bahamas has resulted in 10 fatalities, leading to the immediate suspension of all Flamingo Air flights. The incident occurred in North Andros, waters just west of Nassau, the capital of the archipelago.

The aircraft, a Cessna 402 registered in the Bahamas, departed from Lynden Pindling International Airport in Nassau and was en route to San Andros when it crashed, according to the Bahamian Aircraft Accident Investigation Authority. The victims have not been publicly identified.
Bahamian Prime Minister Philip Brave Davis initially reported one survivor, but later confirmed that the individual succumbed to their injuries. In a press conference, Davis expressed deep sorrow, noting that the tragedy occurred during celebrations for the Bahamas' 53rd independence anniversary. He stated, "We gather beneath a cloud of great sorrow. It has become a day of mourning. ... To every family that has received the devastating news, that someone they love will not be coming home, we offer our deepest condolences."
Flamingo Air Operations Suspended
The Ministry of Energy, Utilities and Aviation announced the suspension of Flamingo Air's air operator certificate as a precautionary safety measure while officials investigate the cause of the crash. The ministry said the suspension is a result of two safety incidents that occurred on Friday.
During the press conference, Energy, Utilities and Aviation Minister JoBeth Coleby-Davis detailed the first incident: a Flamingo Air plane en route to Mayaguana reported a concern and turned back to Nassau. After landing and passenger deboarding, the plane caught fire. That incident is also under investigation.
