Police have rushed to the scene of a car crash in Amsterdam after a vehicle believed to be carrying explosives left the road during a chase. Authorities were notified of a ram-raid in the German town of Fürth at approximately 4.30am on Tuesday and traced the vehicle involved, a BMW M1, to Amsterdam-Osdorp.
Emergency services at the scene
Officers, military personnel and other emergency services are present on Nierkerkestraat. A police spokesman confirmed several individuals fled following the pursuit, with eyewitnesses reporting they observed four men exiting the vehicle.
Evacuations and EOD investigation
Properties within a 100-metre radius of where the car was found have been evacuated as a precautionary measure while the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team carries out its investigation. The Special Intervention Service (DSI) has also conducted searches of nearby properties to determine whether the suspects were concealed there.
Ongoing police operation
A police helicopter has been spotted hovering over the vicinity and the road has been sealed off. German authorities confirmed nothing was stolen during the ram-raid on the cash machine, although the structure sustained significant damage and a blaze erupted.
