A male youth has been charged with assault after a cyclist was allegedly knocked off his bike into the path of oncoming traffic in Stranraer, Dumfries and Galloway.
The incident took place on Monday, 24 August, 2026, on Commerce Road. Footage shared online shows the attacker, dressed in black, approaching from behind as the victim, known locally as Squeaky, rode towards the A75 London Road.
Attack caught on camera
In the video, the attacker pedals harder to close the gap. When the victim notices the rider, he edges away from the kerb and slows down. The attacker then veers sharply into his path, causing a deliberate collision that sends the cyclist flying through the air.
As the victim crashes to the ground, he appears to kick his bike out from beneath him. He is left sprawled on the tarmac as a car approaches, prompting the attacker to abandon his bike and flee. Cries of "Oh my God" can be heard from the person filming, who was also cycling just behind the pair.
Community response
The footage has left residents "disgusted", and a fundraiser has been launched to provide the victim, described as a "kind, gentle soul", with safety equipment for his bicycle. The GoFundMe appeal is approaching its £2,000 target in just over 24 hours.
One person commented: "Absolutely disgusting behaviour. That poor car driver as well. It really could have been a horrific accident! Little p****s trying to show off is all it is! I hope the gentleman in the video is ok."
Another wrote: "Awww no...I saw him coming down into Stair Drive tonight. If I'd have known this happened to him I would've stopped to help. I hope he's okay."
Police confirm charge
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "A male youth has been charged in connection with assault after a man was pushed off his bike in Commerce Road, Stranraer on Monday, 24 August, 2026. A report will be submitted to the relevant authorities."
